Getting to the Isle of Wight is easy and it’s amazing how the short sea crossing can transport you to another world. Once you have travelled to Portsmouth or Southampton in Hampshire, or Lymington in the New Forest, your holiday on the Isle of Wight has practically begun. Journey times by car from London have been dramatically reduced by the opening of the Hindhead tunnel on the A3. Regular express train and coach services operate from London Waterloo and London Victoria, as well as many other city centres across the UK.
When crossing the Solent, there are three options to take. Red Funnel run vehicle and passenger services from Southampton, Wightlink run vehicle and passenger services from Portsmouth and Lymington and Hovertravel offers a passenger service from Southsea to the Isle of Wight. Once you’ve arrived in the Isle of Wight, Newport is just a short bus, taxi or car ride from all ferry ports. Southern Vectis runs a regular bus service across the whole Island with many passing through Newport.
