Arnold Heal – the Islands Gunshop has been trading from its current location in Newport town centre since the early 1970s. According to census there was a gunsmith & gunmaker at 86B Upper St James Street in the later part of the 1800s. Arnold Heal Ltd was incorporated in 1955 by Charlie Heal – he set the buisiness up after the second world war using his skills in engineering to specialise in gunsmithing, gunmaking, tool making and light engineering. The business has been a retailer since the 1970s when Gerry & Eileen Matthews served the game,clay, airgun & target shooters on the Isle of Wight.

 Currently run by Jai & Lisa Nolan the gunshop has expanded its mail order business and sells many guns to retail & trade customers on the UK mainland. Jai has been involved in the gun trade since his late teens and was a keen pistol shooter representing Island clubs and the Island in the inter Island Games competitions. He is a keen rifle shooter & enjoys his game shooting during the season.
The Islands gunshop represents all the major brands, importers and distributors on the Isle of Wight, many of whom the company has dealt with for over 40 years. Products offered include new & used shotguns, firearms, air rifles & pistols, antique firearms, shotgun rimfire centrefire & air gun ammunition, accessories including cleaning gear, gun cabinets, optics, lamping kits, skeet vests, shooting glasses, catapults, knives, bipods, gloves, spares and airsoft – if we don’t have it we can get it.

Services included proof & wall thickness checking, basic safety checking & reports, strip & cleaning of actions, tightening of actions, renewal and replacement of firing pins & mainsprings, regulation of ejectors, reblacking, re bluing and rebrowning of barrels, restocking and rechequering of stock, stock extensions and refinishing, preparation of barrels including resleeving, rebarreling, boring, choke alterations, multichoke conversions (agent for Teague) and reproofing, screw cutting and supply of moderators, rebarreling of rifles, rifle build & customisation.
